From Zero to Remote Job: The Remote Job Search Roadmap
Looking for a remote job? I'll show you the easiest way to start working remotely and how you can do it without having to learn a new skill. And if you already started, here's what you're doing wrong!
When you land on my Substack, you’re not here for quick tips and ideas— you’re here because you want the whole plan.
How to actually get a remote job that upgrades your real life (pays well, allows you to work from anywhere, offers benefits… everything!)
And I’m here because I’ve been doing this long enough to know exactly how to help you get there.
Hola, I’m Andrea Valeria. I’ve been working remotely since 2015.
My first remote job was in HR, interviewing candidates online and reviewing hundreds of resumes. That experience taught me quickly what makes a candidate stand out… and what gets them ignored.

That job/experience eventually led me to create:
The Remotify Your Resume formula & service (2019)
Online workshops & challenges
My full course Land Your First Remote Job (I’ll tell you more about that later)
My remotified resume builder RemoRes
So, that means, I’ve been helping people go remote since 2019.
This article in its FULL version is for paid subscribers because I’m about to break down the information I normally reserve for my course members who are committed to making it happen.
Including:
What skills actually matter for remote jobs, what mistakes stop people from achieving their remote work goals, how to spot legit remote jobs, and what hiring managers actually look for.

Now, before we get into it, here’s…

So, let’s get started…
My Remote Work Story (& what it means for you)
When I landed my first remote job in 2015, my entire life shifted overnight.
I went from:
45-minute commute each way
being underpaid & overwhelmed
having no energy for myself
to:
working from home in pajamas
getting hours of my life back
eventually becoming a digital nomad
living in 10 cities within a year
It was the first time I realized:
“Life doesn’t have to revolve around work.”
Some people want remote work for travel.
Some for flexibility.
Some for higher pay, less burnout, or more time with their kids.
There is no wrong reason, but we all need that first remote job to get there.
What I Don’t Teach (But Some People Think I Do)
I’m NOT teaching you how to:
become an influencer
create content
freelance
sell services
start an online business
“make money fast” (definitely not this!)
And while in my 10 years working remotely, I’ve made money in many different ways listed above (except making money fast), there’s one that’s the easiest if you’re starting out.
I teach you how to land real jobs with real companies — remotely.
That’s the easiest entry point for most people, because you’re not reinventing your career. You’re transferring your existing skills online.
Reminder: A remote job is like having a 9-5 in-office job except you’re doing it from your laptop (which means you can do it from home or while traveling)
Before We Go Deeper: Do You Have What It Takes?
Remote work requires two categories of skills:
Professional (Hard) Skills
These come from training, education or experience. You need to learn them somehow.
For example: accounting, design, administration, graphic design, math, languages, project management, etc.
Soft Skills
This is where most people underestimate themselves.
Some of the core soft skills remote employers look for are:
